At Hedgehog Technologies, we believe engineering is about more than solving complex challenges. It is also about inspiring and supporting the next generation of professionals who will shape the future of our industry.
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Lauren Pollard, a student aspiring to become a mechanical engineer, for a day of job shadowing at our Burnaby office.
During her visit, Lauren toured our office, met members of our multidisciplinary team, and experienced what a typical day looks like for a mechanical engineer. She had the opportunity to see how engineering projects move from concept to execution, how teams collaborate to solve technical challenges, and what day-to-day life is like in a professional consulting environment.

Job shadowing provides students with valuable insight into the engineering profession by connecting classroom learning with real-world experience. Seeing how engineers communicate with clients, work across disciplines, and develop practical solutions helps students better understand the skills and opportunities that await them in their future careers.
At Hedgehog, we are proud to support aspiring engineers through mentorship, outreach, and hands-on learning opportunities. Investing in students today helps build a stronger engineering profession for tomorrow, and we are grateful to have shared a small part of Lauren’s journey as she works toward a career in mechanical engineering.
Thank you for spending the day with us, Lauren. We wish you every success in your studies and look forward to seeing where your engineering journey takes you.
