As a leader in renewable energy solutions, we have been named as finalists for the prestigious Reuters Global Energy Transition Awards. The recognition comes as a result of the construction of a 2 MW solar array and microgrid controller at the Masset airport in Haida Gwaii. But this project is more than just a technological feat; it’s a testament to collaboration, self-determination, and energy sovereignty, thanks to our partnership with The Haida Nation.
Located off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, Haida Gwaii is home to the Haida Nation, an Indigenous community with a rich cultural heritage deeply intertwined with the land and sea. For centuries, they have stewarded the land, understanding the delicate balance between human existence and nature. However, like many remote communities, they face unique challenges, particularly in accessing sustainable and reliable energy sources.
At its core, the solar array and microgrid controller provide a sustainable energy source for the Haida community, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions. However, beyond the technical aspects, the project represents a shift towards energy sovereignty for the Haida Nation.
