Industrial PLC Programming Engineer

August / 2017

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a seasoned PLC programmer with a strong ability to think at a system level while maintaining a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Design and program PLC/control systems including panel layouts and schematics with a rigorous design process including documentation of interfaces, function blocks, state machines, etc.
  • Be familiar with IEC 61131-3 standards for PLC programming, having experience in the Allen Bradley RS Logix 5000 and/or Siemens STEP 7 V12 or later programming environments.
  • Understand TÜV Functional Safety requirements, safety programming and the application of ISO 13849/ISO 62061. The programmer will assist with safety analysis and development of safety related control functions.
  • Be fluent in ladder logic, structured text, FBD, and sequential function chart languages
  • Have experience in creation of usable, neat, visually appealing HMI screens (examples of past work would be helpful) in FactoryTalk View ME/SE/Studio and/or Siemens WinCC environments.
  • Be a team player who is capable of working independently and not afraid to make decisions.
  • Create testing procedures, contribute to the development of thoroughly complete test plans, and oversee construction and commissioning of electrical equipment
  • Develop and improve our internal procedures as part of our continuous improvement process
  • Strive to be a leader on our design team and support the development of our junior engineers and designers and technologists
  • Have an eagerness to learn new skills and technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical or Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar technical field is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and other international codes, e.g. IEC and NEC.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in PLC programming preferably with Allen Bradley systems.
  • Understand PLx and SIL assessments and design philosophy IEC61508/ISO13849 etc.
  • Field experience and ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
  • Available for domestic and international travel

Electrical Technologist

August / 2017:

The candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Read, review and update electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Provide creative solutions relating to assembly of components and industrial electrical systems in non-standard configurations or applications.
  • Build and install electrical panels and equipment.
  • From time to time supervise the fabrication and installation of electrical panels and equipment
  • Work on a production line assembling and testing electrical components and sub-assemblies as part of a manufacturing team.
  • Assist in the creation of test procedures and completing test reports.
  • Participate in and perform test procedures.
  • Test, troubleshoot, commission and perform acceptance-tests for new and upgraded electrical equipment installations.
  • Develop and improve our internal procedures as part of our continuous improvement process.
  • Provide exceptional and responsive customer service to our clients.
  • Other duties as they may be required

The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics, skills and experience:

  • Extensive practical hands on field experience, preferably in an industrial setting.
  • Be quality focused with a meticulous attention to detail, having demonstrated an ability to create accurate, safe, neat, maintainable installations (photos of past work would be helpful).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently when required, but also as part of a team to build and commission electrical panels and components in a fast-paced industrial setting often on very tight schedules.
  • Have experience in low and medium voltage environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve in real time.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the engineering design team to improve component design and manufacturability of panels and equipment.
  • Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely with subcontractors, possibly overseeing subcontractor’s work.
  • Have an eagerness to learn new skills and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed a National Diploma Program in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering Technology from a recognized institution and/or comparable relevant experience
  • Desirable if candidate has completed or is nearing completion of an industrial electrician apprenticeship program
  • ASTTBC registration or eligibility
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code and other international codes.
  • Available for occasional travel

Manufacturing Coordinator

August / 2017

This career opportunity is ideal for the candidate looking to apply their considerable organizational and logistical skills and background to contribute to the success of our company. We are looking for a self-starter that will bring their knowledge of inventory control and management systems to bear to ensure Hedgehog will meet its quality and delivery commitments to its clients.

The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Have 3-5 years’ experience in the electrical/ electronics manufacturing industry with a high degree of knowledge in materials management and logistics.
  • Knowledge and experience of the panel manufacturing process would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and improve our internal inventory control procedures as part of continuous improvement process.
  • Highly organized and exceptional attention to detail and accuracyHave an eagerness to learn new skills and technologies
  • Ideally have a background in Kanban or equivalent systems
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office, primarily Excel and Word, and/or Google Applications
  • Have knowledge of and experience in ERP/ MRP systems
  • Have the ability to lift 22 kg

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties

  • Develop and maintain work process and workflow to receive, organize and bin parts, components and sub-assemblies from multiple suppliers in preparation for the manufacturing process.
  • Receive and inventory parts, components and sub-assemblies, provide appropriate documentation and coordinate with the payables department to verify receipt.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory tracking system and provide regular stocking reports and replenishment requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment
  • Coordinate with purchasing to ensure lead times are met.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure just in time deliveries and accurate shipments to Hedgehog facilities. Track deficiencies and returns.
  • Coordinate with production team to develop production schedule and assembly plans and ensure components are binned and delivered to workstations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Track production and provide appropriate documentation and reporting
  • Prepare completed product for shipping/delivery to customer including preparation of all waybills and shipping documents.
  • Coordinate with customer facility to schedule delivery
  • Stage product and ship to customers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience preferably in the electrical/ electronics or panel manufacturing industry.
  • A supply chain or production planning diploma is an asset
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Forklift training an asset
