By recapturing lost heat from a coffee roasting factory, the team at Hedgehog designed an induction generator and managed the interconnection process for a BC Hydro interconnection scheme.

To improve operations by 5% per year, Hedgehog evaluated generator efficiency and performance, installed fuel flow monitors and energy monitoring and recommended new set points and operational characteristics for a client in a remote community in northern British Columbia. The generators were dispatched more efficiently within reasonable safety margins.

Shore Station and Power Supply Design

Designed a 5kW, 1200 VDC power supply and network for subsea power transmission into the Strait of Georgia. Full factory acceptance testing and burn in were completed. The transmission distance is up to 100 km therefore careful transient and short circuit studies using cable models were conducted to properly protect the target and coordinate the shore breakers.

Solved issue of continual ground faults due to excessive humidity in a specialised control station. Hedgehog identified the leakage path and isolated the 2000 VAC circuits to function with no faults in the high humidity environment.
